Condition of School Building
Wednesday 24 January 2018
Dear Parent/ Carer
Today, I received reassurance from Peter Watton, Head of Property and Facilities Management regarding the condition status of the school building:
“You may have seen reports in the media today indicating that your school is one of a number identified as needing urgent work and that temporary closures may be necessary.
As you may be aware, we recently carried out condition surveys of all buildings in the Council’s estate. Your school was identified as being Condition C on a scale of A to D where A is Good and C is classified as Poor. I would like to reassure you that any issues identified as needing immediate attention were made safe immediately. Health and safety is our highest priority and, while the surveys have identified that upgrading and maintenance work is required at your school, it is safe to continue operating as normal.”
I can also inform you that the City of Edinburgh Council Development Management Sub Committee has approved this morning planning permission for the new school. Completion is due for Spring 2020.
