First Class Honours in Maths!

Wang Pok Lo, S4, aged 13 years, shared his news with school recently how he'd been awarded a first class honours degree in Mathematics from the Open University. After discussions took place between the Headteacher, Mr Lo (Pok's father) and Pok himself, it was agreed that we should share the news further and celebrate Pok's remarkable success. A press release was organised to co-incide with national Mathematics week. The Edinburgh Evening News were first to run with an article but this was quickly followed by interest from the SWNS Media agency who distributed the story far and wide. Indeed, news of the success appeared in many Hong Kong newspapers as well as in a few in mainland China. Pok also carried out an interview for STV news.

Mrs Prot, Curriculum Leader of Mathematics said:

“It has been absolutely tremendous to have Pok with us over the last few years. His natural flair for maths is inspiring and we have thoroughly enjoyed supporting him throughout his studies."

Mr Wood, Headteacher wrote

“The whole school community are extremely proud of Pok and his tremendous achievement. In thirty three years of teaching, I’ve taught many very able young people but I must say that Pok is quite unique. His flair and aptitude for Mathematics is extraordinary. In many ways, Pok is just like any other 13 yr old lad who is just getting on with his studies and attending school with his peers. The only difference is he has a first class honours in Mathematics, a qualification which has eluded many, much older students. He’s now embarked on his Masters programme and we eagerly await the outcome of that.”
