Physical Education Footwear Information
Below is a copy of the letter which is being sent home to parents and guardians regarding the required footwear for the 3G pitches at Queensferry Sport and Community Hub.
Outdoor activities in Physical Education
In June, Pupils will be making choices for the activities they wish to take part in next year in Physical Education. This involves pupils making choices for four blocks of work, which takes them through until Easter 2018. As pupils go through this process in the PE department, it is important that they are aware of the following information:
During the winter months and into early spring, often the grass pitches at the front of the school become unplayable due to the inclement weather conditions and, as a result, we have to hire the 3G pitches belonging to Queensferry Rugby Club. One stipulation they insist on is that only footwear with round moulded studs, on the heel and front of the boot, can be worn on these pitches. As shown below:
No flat soled trainers will be allowed.
It is important that if pupils are intending to choose outdoor activities, such as Football, Rugby and Handball, they will be required to have access to their own pair of footwear with moulded studs. We will have only a few pairs in the department to lend out in emergency situations. Queensferry Rugby club will also have a stock of footwear they can lend but cannot always guarantee your child’s size. Your child will be given a further letter after they have made their choices indicating when they will need this specialised footwear.
As a department, we are aware that some football boots can be quite expensive, however, we have found that shops like Sports Direct (http://www.sportsdirect.com/) and M and M Direct (http://www.mandmdirect.com/) have footwear which is reasonably priced.
We would like to highlight that in the future, our new facilities, which we will be starting to use in session 2018/19 will also require specialised footwear.
Furthermore, there will be some of you who go through multiple pairs of football boots throughout a year, due to needing a change of size, or, boots are nearing the end of their use. These boots could come in handy to the department for emergency use, therefore, we ask that if anyone has any used football boots with moulded studs, which are still in reasonable condition to donate them to the department.
If you have any concerns or further queries, please do not hesitate to contact the PE department.
