Gold Award

The Gold Award

As with Bronze and Silver, to complete the Gold DofE Award your son/daughter must commit to complete a personal programme of activities in 4 sections plus a residential.

Again, each activity must be undertaken for an average of 1 hour per week.  You can choose the same activity as you did from a previous level, but you need to show development in it. It's best to try something new! For Gold, you’ll spend 12 months on your Volunteering section. For Physical and Skills you must spend 12 months on one and six months on the other - you decide which way round you do it.

The Gold expedition is for four days and three nights (plus an acclimatisation day) and should take place in 'wild country'. The big difference at Gold is you'll also do a Residential section - staying away from home for five days and four nights doing a shared activity with people you don't know. It's great fun and a real chance to do something different!

Registration for Gold can only be processed when the Silver award is completed and signed off on eDofE. Registration costs for Gold are currently £25. Expedition and residential information and resources can be found below.

Residential Section

Your Residential activity can be anything that provides you with an opportunity for broadening your interests and experiences. It is ideal for trying something new or it can be related to existing interests or activities followed in other sections of your DofE programme. This section offers a high degree of flexibility but it must be done with an organised group, registered charity or Approved Activity Provider. You must join it individually and not with an existing group of friends or as part of a school or youth group trip. You will be staying away - anything from an activity centre or camp to a boat or barge - but you cannot stay with friends or relatives.
